Consultant Spotlight: Meet Ava Skye Carter, a Multidisciplinary Graphic Designer and Creative Problem Solver

Ava Skye Carter doesn’t just design — she transforms. One of her favorite projects was developing the paint scheme for a library moving into an old Goodwill. It wasn’t a difficult job, but it was important. “My work helped the community find their library in its new home,” she said. “It was so simple, yet so impactful.” This phrase — simple yet impactful — perfectly describes Ava’s approach to work.

Strategy. Creativity. Versatility.
As a multidisciplinary graphic designer, Ava has worked on a range of projects in a variety of media for a number of industries. Her experience stretches beyond graphic design and into ideation, creative direction, and problem solving on a large scale. “If I haven’t worked on a specific design problem, I’m confident I can come up with a solution,” she said.

One challenge involved completely redesigning a client’s product and packaging. In the dawning age of DVDs, her client’s bulky VHS and workbook packages weren’t exactly flying off the shelves. So Ava worked with partners to condense the videos into four DVDs, and then to create a unique magnetic-closing package that could hold the DVDs and a sleek spiral workbook. From concept to completion, Ava was responsible for the color palette, the layout, typesetting, proofing, and approval. “It was a major project that we were able to complete from start to finish in just a few short months,” she said. Problem solved.

Proficiency. Artistry. Consultancy.
Ava works in Creative Cloud, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and Canva. Whether you need layout, product design, video editing, signage, logo development, vector graphics, or photo retouching, she knows which program to use to maximize the outcome.

What’s more, Ava relies on her expert eye to take projects from good to great. “I don’t design for the sake of design. I design to communicate clearly and effectively,” she said. “Every design decision I make is intentional, whether it’s a color to evoke a reaction or a line of text kerned just so.”

The most important aspect of Ava’s job is getting to know her clients and their expectations. If there’s no connection with the client, how can she communicate for the client? “The relationships I forge, the knowledge I have, and the creativity I bring make me unique,” she said. “I’m not here to overstep your vision with my own, I’m here to help, teach, and guide so your vision is fully realized.”
